Hidden in the Karangahake Gorge, the Waikino Tavern is the historic heart of the local village. The tavern is family owned and run, with current publicans James and Jaimee Beck taking the helm in August 2016. With a friendly atmosphere, an extensive menu of irresistible pub fare and ice cold drinks it's the perfect place to relax. Cozy up by the fire in winter or spend a summer afternoon sitting in our sunny outdoor area.
Built in 1898 in nearby Mackaytown the Tavern was moved to Waikino in 1925. Housing an impressive range of historic mining tools ( and few ghosts according to the locals ) this really is a building with stories to tell.
